How Common Is Clinical Depression? As estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately one hundred and twenty million (120,000,000) people worldwide are currently experiencing some form of depression. In the United States, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) reports that one (1) out of ten (10) Americans age 18 and older are adversely affected by depression. In raw numbers, this equates to roughly fifteen million (15) American adults.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), further postulates that the leading cause of disability for Americans age 15 to 44 is depression.
