“You are not your illness. You have an individual story to tell. You have a name, a history, and a personality. Staying yourself is part of the battle.” -Julian Seifter
I believe the mental well-being of the country is only as good as the mental health of its people. To this end, I am committed to participating in improving and preserving the mental well-being of people. Life, at best, is challenging, and no one has to take the journey alone. In my 20+ years of working with youth in the juvenile justice and school systems and their families, I have witnessed how empowering it can be for one to tell their story and orchestra an ending that can move them forward to deal with life’s challenges and live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
Many of our communities have experienced overwhelming instances and different types of trauma. As a counselor educator and practitioner, I believe that healing can happen in a trauma-informed and compassionate environment. One of my goals is to provide trauma-informed and compassionate care to those who find themselves dealing with various forms of trauma, especially children and adolescents.
I have many years of working with children, adolescents, and adults involved in domestic violence situations. I have provided counseling services to children and adolescents in schools and juvenile justice settings in individual and group formats. I have worked with adults in a group counseling format.
My many years of experience and knowledge have prepared me with the skills to collaborate with students/clients and equip them with coping skills and strategies to live healthy lifestyles and engage in positive support structures that will help them write a story of resilience and improved mental well-being. Healthy people make for a healthier community.”
